If you are looking to tweak your elementary OS, Elementary Tweaks is the best tool you can rely on. In this tutorial, we shall see how to install elementary Tweaks in elementary OS Loki and Freya.
Using elementary Tweaks you can enable double click in Elementary OS or add minimize button in Elementary OS. It gives lots of other tweaking options in elementary OS. You can compare it to Unity Tweak tool for Unity, GNOME Tweak Tool for GNOME and Mate Tweak for Mate desktop.
There are separate PPAs for elementary Tweaks in the elementary OS Loki (based on Ubuntu 16.04) and Freya (based on Ubuntu 14.04).
Fun fact: elementary OS Freya was initially code-named Isis but it was later changed to Freya for a very interesting reason. Read more on why elementary OS Isis renamed to Freya.
Install elementary Tweaks in elementary OS Loki
At this point, I want to make it clear that elementary OS team doesn’t want you to use elementary Tweaks anymore starting Loki. But they have also not provided any option to change the themes and icons in Loki.
Moreover, one of the elementary OS 0.4 Loki features is disabling of PPA by default. You can’t go on using PPA without a little tweak. elementary OS team doesn’t want inexperienced users to go on installing third party apps and end up with a broken system. This is why installing applications in elementary OS Loki has become slightly complicated.
Don’t worry, I’ll show you how to do that. It’s really not as big a deal, as per me.
Open a terminal (Super key+T) and use the following command to enable PPAs:
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
For Loki, we have a new PPA that allows us to install elementary Tweaks. Use the following commands to install it using this PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip.scott/elementary-tweaks
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install elementary-tweaks
Install elementary Tweaks in elementary OS Freya
To install elementary Tweaks in elementary OS Freya, use the following PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mpstark/elementary-tweaks-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install elementary-tweaks
Install Elementary Tweaks in Elementary OS Luna
To install elementary Tweaks in elementary OS Luna, use the following PPA:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:versable/elementary-update
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install elementary-tweaks
That’s it. I hope you find this tutorial helpful in installing elementary Tweaks in Loki. I’ll be covering more elementary OS Loki in near future. Stay tuned :)

Yeah….this is broken. Hopefully they’ll just make a .deb file one can install using dpkg -i. Would really like to eliminate that single-click! Here’s hoping!
