It was not long ago that Ubuntu Phone OS was announced with a clock ticking on the Ubuntu homepage. Guess what? The clock is ticking once again. And it has a clear hint that says Ubuntu is entering the tablet world, officially. Officially because we already have Nexus tabs running on Ubuntu Touch. This is the countdown that can be seen on the Ubuntu website:
Quite evident that Ubuntu is going to announce a tablet OS within 24 hours. If I have to guess, I would say this tablet OS should be based on the line of Ubuntu Phone OS. Android uses the same source code for both smart phone and tablet OS. I won’t be surprised if Ubuntu does the same.
Is HTC going to launch the Ubuntu Tablet OS?
Announcement of Ubuntu tablet OS should not come as surprise. After all if Ubuntu is entering the smart phone OS market, why not tablets? After all it almost lies in the same domain. The question here is which manufacturer is going to launch the first Ubuntu Tablet OS. My first guess, at present, is HTC and I have a reason for that. If you go to HTC website right now, there is a similar countdown running. The clock difference between the two is one minute. This could be pure coincidence but as far now, it could be termed as the possible announcement of Ubuntu powered tablets.
While all this happening I wonder where is Mozilla Firefox OS which was announced in July 2012 and supposed to be out in early 2013.
