Most of us living outside United States of America are deprived of some great services such as Netflix, Hulu, Pandora etc. People outside USA keep on searching for how to watch Netflix outside USA. In this article, I’ll show you the easiest way to watch Hulu outside the US that too absolutely free. You don’t need to pay for a VPN service provider to access these services from other part of world.
This tutorial is performed on Ubuntu 13.04 and requires to change your DNS server. This trick exploits the fact that most of these US-based services monitor entries based on IP address. If your IP address is a non-USA IP, you won’t get the access. Tunlr is one free project that manipulates the DNS and tricks the servers in US in believing that the incoming request is from a USA based IP.
How to use Tunlr to watch Netflix and Hulu outside America:
Tunlr is just a DNS resolving service. So all you have to do is to change your DNS server with Tunlr server. That’s it. Nothing else needs to be done. No software to download or install. To change the DNS server, you’ll have to edit the /etc/resolv.conf file in Ubuntu and other Linux OS. Open a terminal and use the following command:
sudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf
This will open the file in Gedit so that you can easily it in the GUI. In here, comment out the previous DNS settings by putting a hash (#) before it and add the following servers:
nameserver 188.8.131.52 nameserver 184.108.40.206
The file will look like this after the editing:
Save it and close it. Generally, you won’t even have to restart the computer. You can see the effect by checking out the websites. If it doesn’t work. delete the cookies and try again. You can verify that DNS changes are working fine by going to Tunlr and check the status there. It should show you the activation status in green like this:
That’s all. You can enjoy Netflix, Hulu, Pandora etc from any part of the globe. Best thing, it’s free. And trust me, it is the most easy way to watch Netflix anywhere in the world with Linux. What you say? Any questions, suggestions? Feel free to drop in a word in the comment section. Ciao :)
