How To Upgrade to Ubuntu 13.04 Beta

Beta TestingDespite the rumours of Ubuntu to become rolling release distribution, Ubuntu 13.04 is following its release schedule and the final version is expected to arrive in end of April 2013. While there is still some times left for the final release, early adopters may want to try their hands on the beta version of Ubuntu 13.04. If you are using Ubuntu 12.10, this tutorial will show you how to upgrade to Ubuntu 13.04 beta.

Ubuntu 13.04 is in beta which means it is not a stable release. Use it only if you want to be an early bird to test it.

Steps to upgrade to Ubuntu 13.04 Beta:

Step 1:

Update your system first. To do, so open the terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and use the following commands:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Step 2:

Press Alt+F2 to open the command box. Type “update-manager -d” (without the quotes). Please mind the space between manager and -d.

Step 3:

The software Updater will show you a message that New distribution release ’13.04′ is available. Click on upgrade to upgrade the system to Ubuntu 13.04.

    Hey, quick question – I do the upgrade and now all my apt sources are the Raring releases. I’m getting updates from the Daily updates, but will they become the standard release updates when the 25th rolls around? Or am I on a Daily update channel?
