Ubuntu 14.04 Release Schedule Is Out!

As the development for Ubuntu 13.10 is in full gear for its release on October 17th (check release schedule for Ubuntu 13.10), the tentative release schedule for Ubuntu 14.04 is out now. As per the information posted on official wiki page, final version of Ubuntu 14.04 will be released on 17 April 2014.

Ubuntu 14.04 release schedule:

Here are the “tentative” release dates for Ubuntu 14.04. I used “tentative” because the dates may change during the course of development.

  • Alpha 1 – December 19th
  • Alpha 2 – January 23rd
  • Beta 1 – February 27th
  • Final Beta – March 27th
  • Release Candidate – April 10th
  • Final Release: April 17th

Ubuntu 14.04 will be a long term support (LTS) release. LTS releases are more stable and better suited for enterprises.

For the new Ubuntu users, as per Ubuntu naming convention, the first 2 digits in the version number are the year and the last two digits are the month number. Which means 14.04 will be released in April 2014.
