AI and bots are everywhere. YouTube is filled with AI generated, low-quality videos; Facebook and other social media are no different. What is more concerning is the report that more than 50% of the internet traffic is by bots.

Gone are the days when the Internet connected humans. Are we heading towards the death of the internet? Theena explores what the world could look like in the near future.

The Internet is Dying. We Can Still Stop It
Almost 50% of all internet traffic are non-human already. Unchecked, it could lead to a zombie internet.

Let's see what else you get in this edition of FOSS Weekly:

💡 Quick Handy Tip

The Ubuntu system settings offer only limited settings to tweak the appearance of desktop icons. In fact, the desktop icons that come pre-installed in Ubuntu are achieved through an extension.

So, if you have GNOME Shell Extensions installed in Ubuntu, then you can access a lot more tweaking options for the desktop icons.

After installing it, open it and click on the cogwheel button near the "Desktop Icons NG (DING)" system extension. As you can see in the screenshot above, other Ubuntu features like Window Tiling, AppIndicators, etc. can also be tweaked from here.

🗓️ Tech Trivia: On November 4, 1952, CBS News used the UNIVAC computer to predict the U.S. presidential election. Early data pointed to an easy win for Dwight D. Eisenhower, but skeptical anchors delayed announcing it. When the results came in, UNIVAC was right, marking the first time a computer accurately forecast a national election.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 From the Community: Regular FOSSer Rosika has come up with a download script for It's FOSS Community topics. This can be really handy if you want to keep a backup of any interesting topics.

Enhanced Download Script for It’s FOSS Community Topics
Hi all, 👋 this is a follow-up tutorial to I wrote a download script for itsfoss community content (which I published last November). I´ve been working together with ChatGPT for 3 days (well, afternoons, actually) to concoct a script which caters for bulk-downloading selected ITSFoss forum content. It´s the umpteenth version of the script, and it seems to work perfectly now. 😉 In case anyone might be interested in it I thought it would be a good idea to publish it here. Perh…
