It is known for its no-logs policy and rock-solid encryption that protect user data from surveillance and other kinds of cyber threats. The company has now launched a new feature targeting call-based scams.
NordVPN Scam Call Protection: What to Expect?
Called Scam Call Protection, this new feature is integrated into the Android app for NordVPN (partner link). The tool analyzes incoming call metadata and displays warnings about potentially fraudulent phone numbers before the user answers a call.
Currently, it is limited to users in the United States, but NordVPN will most likely expand availability to other regions based on initial performance and user feedback from the limited rollout.
The feature works by scanning call metadata without accessing actual conversation content. When potentially suspicious numbers attempt to contact you, warning messages will pop up directly on your screen alongside the caller information.
Android users can enable Scam Call Protection through their NordVPN app's Threat Protection settings. The setup process requires granting specific system permissions and integrates seamlessly with existing app functionality.
Planned features include a verified caller ID for trusted numbers, more elaborate organization labels like financial or healthcare, and a way for users to report suspicious numbers.
