41st list of world’s top 500 supercomputers is out and the winner is: Linux, like previous year. While China’s Tianhe-2 is ranked number in the list, Linux is the undisputed king when it comes to operating systems running on the supercomputers. 95 percent of the world’s top 500 supercomputers run Linux.
The list was released on 17th June 2013 in International Supercomputing Conference in Leipzig, Germany. Linux’s percentage of share has increased to 95 compared to 94 in last November. Jay Lyman, a senior analyst for enterprise software at 451 Research:
“We see Linux continuing its domination of the Top500 supercomputer list with all of the top 10 and more than 90 percent of systems relying on clustered Linux,”
So if you think Windows rules the personal computer world, Linux rules the super computer world. A good and encouraging news for Linux lovers <3
