Ubuntu 14.10 has been released this week. Like any other Ubuntu release, you will encounter few hiccups. One of the first things I noticed was **Dropbox icon missing in Ubuntu 14.10 & Ubuntu 14.04**.

This article was originally written for Ubuntu 13.10 but it is equally applicable to Ubuntu 14.04.

If you are a previous user of Ubuntu and Dropbox, you know that there is usually an applet indicator for [Dropbox](https://dropbox.com/?ref=itsfoss.com) on the top panel. This indicator gives quick access to start/stop sync, status of sync and usage of your Dropbox storage. Installing Dropbox is one of the [must to do things after installing Ubuntu](https://itsfoss.com/things-to-do-after-installing-ubuntu-13-10/ "Things To Do After Installing Ubuntu 13.10") for me. And I was astonished when I found **no Dropbox icon in Ubuntu 13.10**.

## How to get missing Dropbox icon back in Ubuntu 14.10

In this quick tip, I am going to show you how to get the missing Dropbox applet indicator back in Ubuntu 14.10\. All you have to do is to install libappindicator. Open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and use the following command:

```
sudo apt-get install libappindicator1
```

Once libappindicator is installed, restart your computer. You will see the Dropbox icon back in the top panel.

Apparently, its an unconfirmed [bug](https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-dropbox/+bug/1211066?ref=itsfoss.com) in Ubuntu 13.10 which was seen during pre-release testing. I hope it will be fixed in near future.

I hope this quick post helped you in getting back the missing Dropbox indicator in Ubuntu 14.04\. Feel free to hit the comment section for any questions/suggestions. Ciao :)
