This was a stepping stone for Microsoft as it partnered with Seattle Computer Products. In 1980, IBM wanted to use CP/M operating system for its upcoming PC. The talks failed with CP/M creator Gary Kildall. In 1981, IBM awarded a contract to Microsoft for developing a CP/M like operating system.
