Something that was [speculated](https://itsfoss.com/raspberry-pi-5-16-gb-coming/) a few days ago has now become a reality with the launch of the Raspberry Pi 5 16 GB variant. It is an SBC that's packed with all the same bells and whistles as the typical Raspberry Pi 5, but with extra RAM.

The Raspberry Pi team increased memory to unlock more powerful use cases, like running large language models ([*LLM*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large%5Flanguage%5Fmodel?ref=itsfoss.com)*s*), performing computational fluid dynamics ([*CFD*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computational%5Ffluid%5Fdynamics?ref=itsfoss.com)), and supporting memory-intensive Linux distributions.

The memory chip in use is manufactured by [Micron](https://www.micron.com/?ref=itsfoss.com), who have put together **a single package with eight 16Gbit LPDDR4X dies** to make this possible.

Seeing this, I can’t help but imagine a 16 GB [Raspberry Pi 500](https://itsfoss.com/raspberry-pi-500-monitor/). It’d be perfect with the Raspberry Pi Monitor, but there’s no sign of it existing yet.

Alongside the memory upgrade, Raspberry Pi has launched [Carbon Removal Credit](https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/carbon-removal-credit/?ref=itsfoss.com), an initiative that allows users to offset the environmental impact of their devices. For $4, anyone can mitigate the emissions associated with the production and disposal of a Raspberry Pi.

You can go through the official [announcement blog](https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/16gb-raspberry-pi-5-on-sale-now-at-120/?ref=itsfoss.com) to learn more.

### 💰 Pricing and Availability

Priced at **$120,** the Raspberry Pi 5 16GB joins the rest of the lineup with 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB models. You can get this from the [official website](https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/raspberry-pi-5/?ref=itsfoss.com), which lists authorized resellers grouped according to region.
