# A Raspberry Pi 5 Variant With 16 GB RAM Could Be Coming Very Soon!

Having a decent amount of RAM on your [single-board computer](https://itsfoss.com/raspberry-pi-alternatives/) (*SBC*) is essential if you want to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without running into performance issues.

That's why, SBCs like the [Raspberry Pi 5](https://itsfoss.com/raspberry-pi-5/) feature multiple memory variants, each catering to different use cases, and according to a recent report, it might be getting a big upgrade in 2025.

**What's Happening:** [NotebookCheck](https://www.notebookcheck.net/Raspberry-Pi-5-Popular-single-board-computer-to-receive-16-GB-RAM-refresh-sooner-than-expected.940951.0.html?ref=itsfoss.com) has reported that **a Raspberry Pi 5 16 GB variant** could become a reality soon. They quote a source (*Sascha0815*) who has disclosed that a variant with 16 GB markings is already shipping (*without 16 GB RAM installed*).

Some have seen a listing (or a mention) on reseller sites, but we cannot confirm them at the moment.

Currently, we can only **consider this to be speculation**, with very few details available on such a product existing in the first place. But, with the buzz around, the chances are good, unless the Raspberry Pi Foundation disagree with the rumors (*which they haven't yet*).

If one takes a look at the recently launched Raspberry Pi [Compute Module 5](https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/compute-module-5-on-sale-now/?ref=itsfoss.com), which is expected to receive a 16 GB variant sometime in 2025, then there could be a real possibility for a 16 GB Raspberry Pi 5.

However, **the pricing would be crucial** in order for it to penetrate the market.

**When To Expect:** According to NotebookCheck's source, the release date is quite close, on **January 8, 2025**, with no details on the pricing. Raspberry Pi [has been busy lately](https://itsfoss.com/raspberry-pi-500-monitor/), so a launch might be on the horizon, but I wouldn’t hold my breath just yet.

If it does drop, it could be a highly capable SBC, offering solid performance and giving tough competition to other popular options that come with more RAM.
