Nitrux is a [beautiful Linux distro](https://itsfoss.com/beautiful-linux-distributions/?ref=news.itsfoss.com) that combines the power of Debian, KDE Plasma, [AppImage](https://itsfoss.com/use-appimage-linux/), and [immutability](https://itsfoss.com/immutable-distro/) to offer a performant package that is unlike any other.

Designed to be a sleek and user-friendly experience, **Nitrux's developers are quite active in pushing out new upgrades to it**. They are ending 2024 with a big release that has many exciting things to offer.

Let's dive into it! 😃

## 🆕 Nitrux 3.8.0: What's New?

![a screenshot of nitrux 3.8.0 desktop view with about this system dialog open](https://itsfoss.com/content/images/2024/12/Nitrux_3.8.0.jpg)

Code-named “*db*” to reflect the **focus on improved performance and hardware integration**, Nitrux 3.8.0 is powered by Linux 6.12.1-1 (Liquorix), with numerous improvements to offer.

We kick things off with the changes to Nitrux's [Calamares](https://calamares.io/?ref=itsfoss.com) configuration, where a non-functional kernel parameter was removed, and some new ones added to prevent [clock drift](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clock%5Fdrift?ref=itsfoss.com) in some laptops.

The [OpenRC](https://github.com/OpenRC/openrc?ref=itsfoss.com) init implementation also sees changes, with various services now being sorted into [runlevels](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runlevel?ref=itsfoss.com) and the removal of some services from *async*, *default*, and *sysinit* to **improve boot time**.

The developers have also worked on adding an OpenRC service script that enables [Dynamic Boost](https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86%5F64/510.47.03/README/dynamicboost.html?ref=itsfoss.com#:~:text=Dynamic%20Boost%20is%20intended%20to,%2A%2Fcpufreq%2Fscaling%5Fmax%5Ffreq%20sysfs%20entries.) on supported NVIDIA GPUs, and another service to change the ownership of an Intel-related file to allow [MangoHud](https://github.com/flightlessmango/MangoHud?ref=itsfoss.com) to display power consumption of Intel CPUs.

Various applications and packages have been updated too, with Nitrux 3.8.0 featuring [Firefox 133](https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/133.0/releasenotes/?ref=itsfoss.com), [Nitrux Update Tool System 2.1.9](https://github.com/Nitrux/nuts/releases/tag/2.1.9?ref=itsfoss.com), and [Mesa 24.2.8](https://docs.mesa3d.org/relnotes/24.2.8.html?ref=itsfoss.com).

Other notable changes include **updated offline documentation**, **the addition of an NVIDIA binary** for enabling the creation of NVIDIA device nodes, and a new [zenergy](https://github.com/Nitrux/zenergy?ref=itsfoss.com) kernel module for allowing MangoHud **to display the power consumption of AMD Zen processors**.
