Is there any native Twitter client for Ubuntu Linux? This is one of the most frequent asked question by social media enthusiasts. And the need for a native desktop client for Twitter is quite understandable considering its rather poor web interface.
We have seen few desktop Twitter client for Linux in the past. Birdie, Polly, Turpial etc. But most of them are not seeing any new development. In other words, native Linux clients for Twitter are on the verge of extinction.
But there is always a sliver lining, a ray of hope and for Twitter enthusiasts, that sliver lining is Corebird. Corebird is a native gtk+ Twitter client for desktop Linux which has a nice graphical user interface. Corebird is available to install in any Linux OS using its source code.
But for Ubuntu 14.10 and other Linux distributions based on Ubuntu 14.10, there is an unofficial PPA available that can be used to install Corebird.
Install Corebird in Ubuntu 14.10 via PPA
Open a terminal and use the following commands to install desktop Twitter client Corebird in Ubuntu 14.10:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/corebird sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install corebird
For Ubuntu 14.04 users, this PPA won’t work as there is a dependency on gtk+3 (>=3.11.2). You can get it by using staging PPA of GNOME 3.12 but I won’t recommend it at all.
I hope you find this quick tutorial helpful to install Corebird Twitter client in Ubuntu 14.10. Any questions or suggestions are always welcomed.
