Earlier this month I told you about three beautiful Linux OS releasing in 2015. Among the three, Evolve OS has just released its first beta version.
Evolve OS is not based on the popular choice of Ubuntu or Fedora. Instead it is built from scratch and it uses PiSi package manager. It is also introducing a new desktop environment called Budgie. Though still in beta, you can easily install Budgie desktop in Ubuntu. It is quite good on the eyes, I must add.
What’s in Evolve OS Beta 1
The first beta now plays most of the media formats and includes several codecs by default. Which means that you can run H264, MP3, DVDs etc straightway, without the need of installing codecs and packages. Totem and Rythembox are the default media players in Evolve OS.
The latest beta also introduces Evolve OS Software Center, evolve-sc. This aims to ease the installation of new software and upgrades. It will soon see automatic driver updates and 32 bit program support as well. You can have a sneak peek at Evolve OS in the slideshow below:

Getting Evolve OS Beta
If you want to try Evolve OS beta, you can download the ISO from the link below.
Download Evolve OS Beta via Torrent
A word of caution, the downloaded ISO is not UEFI compatible. Which means you cannot install Evolve OS in the same manner as you install Ubuntu on a UEFI system, at least not now. There will be UEFI support in Evolve OS beta 2. Till then you have to control yourself, like I did.

Remember that cool SolusOS? This one is worth a wait, too.
Indeed
Does not boot wtih a USB live key, does not work properly with vm. It is not a beta, it is a Alpha in the best case…
It does boot with a USB key unless it encounters UEFI :)
[…] a forked version of PiSi package manager. It is currently in early stage of development and with beta version of Evolve OS released […]
Geez Abhisehk….could you give us a hint on how to actually install the OS. I tried on many different devices…no luck…and being a newb, I’m no genius with the command line.
It’s not supporting UEFI right now. And I don’t want to go all the way round with legacy system. I prefer to wait at least for beta 2 for any OS anyways. So I will wait for second beta release of Evolve OS as well.
I’m not trying to come off as being mean, just honest. If you are a “newb” (I hate that word, and it’s spelling.), then maybe you shouldn’t be installing an OS that is considered to be in a beta/alpha stage of development. It will only cause you headaches and problems. Which in turn, will cause others headaches and problems, because we are trying to help a “newb” (someone that shouldn’t be running a beta OS), fix issues with a beta OS. Patience is key here. Wait until the stable version is released, also wait until you and others no longer consider you a “newb” before you attempt to install beta software. Again, if this comes off as being mean, then first let me apologize and second, let me reiterate that I do not intend for it to come across that way, I only intend to tell you my true opinion with sincerity and honesty.
As a “newb” i agree with you 100% i like the new shiny toys, but also know my limitations in what i can handle on Linux ..and it is not that much.. so i stick to using Ubuntu because that is what i first learned about Linux with
and is most comfortable to me ..i tried Mint ,Kubuntu ,and Elementary OS…
did not feel right using them ..so i am back to Ubuntu
